UNIT 1
THE EARLY MIDDLE AGES

In this unit we hope you will identify the main characteristics of the Byzantine Empire, learn about the origins and characteristics of the Islam as a religion and as an empire and finally, you will learn about the characteristics of the Carolingian empire.

These are a series of videos that will help you to study, we hope that you have a good time watching them.

THE END OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE

In this video, our old friend, John Green teaches you about the fall of the Roman Empire (do you remember him?). He is a bit crazy but it is still a valuable source and very entertaining...

THE BARBARIAN INVADERS

Here you have a short video in Spanish in which the Germanic invasions are clearly described. You can trace the map of these invasions following the arrows of the different peoples mentioned.

BYZANTINE EMPIRE

There are not good videos in English about the Byzantine Empire. But this that we offer you in Spanish is really interesting, with an amazing introduction about the reasons for Constantinople to appear in the East Mediterranean.
It is worth watching... Really good!!
This is in English and it is about the emperor Justinian the Great
Justinian the Great was also known for the publication of a new version of the old Roman legal system: the Corpus Iuris Civilis, also known as The Justinian Code...

THE CAROLINGIAN EMPIRE

This is a long video (37´) that tells us about the Carolingian empire and relates it to the rest of reigns and powers of that time, mainly Islam
Another video, in this case in Spanish, but shorter and very clear, not only because of the language...
And the last one is about Charlamagne. Clear and quite complete.
